Day three of our trip was truly an unplanned stop.
We had planned to tour Brussels, Bruges and
Amsterdam when we left, but for
day three we decided to go off script and took a side trip to Paris.
We booked it at 1 am and were on the train at
8 am.
The last time we were in Paris it was winter time and while
we had fun, Siena had one piece of unfinished business.
When we last visited Paris the Eiffel Tower
was frozen solid due to the snow and we couldn’t get above the second level. Siena
wanted to get to the top.
So the first
place we went was to the Eiffel Tower.
As luck would have it the weather held and we got to the top.
Siena clearly under-estimated just how high
up the top was, but she was thrilled to be there.
Our
day was off to a wonderful start.

The top of the Eiffel Tower wasn’t high enough for us, so we
ventured off to a sight we had not visited before, Sacre-Coeur.
As we arrived Siena fell asleep on the
Metro.
So we stopped in the park and
relaxed by the carousel until she woke up.
Paris seems to be filled with carousels and as you would expect when
Siena’s eyes opened a carousel ride (actually two) was a must.

The beautiful church at the top of Montmartre was a great
stop. Here we visited the church and
debated the climb to the top of the dome.
Over 300 steps and a tight spiral stair case meant Siena wasn’t getting
a free daddy ride, but she is getting bigger and wanted to do it. So off we went with Siena leading the
way. She barreled up the stairs with
absolutely no fear and no need to rest.
At the top she wandered around in a tight space with a decent wind like
she had climbed Mount Everest. The view
was beautiful and the city looked lovely.
Sacre-Coeur also provided Siena and Rhoadie with a new transportation
experience, the funicular.

With our day moving toward its end we visited the Arc de
Triomphe where Siena entertained us with her dancing and photographic
skills.
It was a great ending to a
lovely day.
After a quick dinner in
Paris we headed back to Brussels, the high speed trains are very cool for
getting around.

As our trip would
progress, it was very clear that the highlight of the trip for Siena (and Lisa)
was going to be a day in Paris.
Lisa
and I have now been to Paris 3 times and I can assure you we will be back
again.
It seems no matter how often we
go, what we do or what there weather is like, it is never a bad idea to go to
Paris.
