Today we set off to do some inside events to avoid splashing
the day through the rain drops.
We
started with a trip the NEMO Science Center.
This place is all about kids and Siena loved it.
Hands on exhibits that encourage kids to
play.
This was not a problem for
Siena.
She loved the bubble creations,
the shadow wall and the water works.
She
ran, played and learned.
One of her more
impressive feats was figuring out how to keep the ball afloat above the air
cannon.
It was a fun time.

Following the NEMO we set out on a canal boat cruise. The tour through the canals of Amsterdam are
a good way to see the city but they do pack the boat full. The highlight of the cruise came toward the
end as we came back across the harbor toward the dock. It was then that a rainbow appeared in the
rainy skies. I know Siena has seen a
rainbow in the past, but she was little and for her this was a whole new
thing. She was so excited to see the
colors in the sky.

After a quick dinner we stopped by the Anne Frank
House. This sight was easily the one we
were most concerned about visiting as this isn’t a story that ends happily ever
after. After some good online research
and talking to the staff we determine that we could bypass a few videos and
could sanitize the visit enough not to frighten Siena. So we took the time to visit the house and to
share just enough of the story with Siena to get her to ask a thousand
questions. We tap danced the Holocaust
as best we could and shared more of the story of the brave girl and her family
that protected people.
The visit was interesting and educational, but as we left the
house there was one thing that puzzled me. How did people not realize those
floors and rooms were there from looking at the outside of the house? It was
a different time, but you could surely see the building was tall enough to
house more floors and rooms and the windows were easily visible. Either people who worked there knew or they
really took their surroundings at face value.
Either way the plan worked at the time.

Another full day was behind us and no one had a hard time
falling asleep this night.
