Flip Over

Not sure if it is a sign of things to come, but playing with Siena seems to always include one thing, flips. Maybe she will be a gymnast one day, but for now she has one move she likes and three different techniques for doing it.

First there is the daddy flip. You lay on the floor, Siena sits on top of you, and you pick her up with your arms around her waist and roll her over in mid air. This requires long arms to get done and is getting tougher to do as she is getting longer too (36 inches at this post).

Then there is the My Gym flip. Siena is still learning this one, but here she sets her hands and arms above her head, feet on the floor, back arched and tries to help you as you tumble her legs over her head. I believe this is the way they teach children to tumble properly.

Lastly, there is the grandma flip. Grandma Gail taught her this one during her recent visit. Here you lie on your back, Siena stands at the top of your head, and you pick her up under her arms and roll her over on top of you. This one probably has the best long term possibilities as it is easiest to do as she gets bigger.

So if you are playing with Siena and you think she is starting to tell you stories about “flipper”, she probably isn’t talking about the dolphin. She is saying “flip over.”
