Mona Lisa Venus Angelina

A series of girls names or a list of things to do in and around the Louvre.  If you guessed the second on then you were correct.  When Siena was younger we would read her story books about famous art works.  As you would guess, many of them are housed in Paris and a few in the Louvre.  Since it was now apparent that snow and rain were a going to be a consistent theme, an inside attraction seemed to be just the thing to do.

We ventured to the Louvre and spent the day exploring the many works of art and sculpture.  Siena enjoys looking at pictures and loves to ask interesting questions.  She wants to know why the horse Napoleon is riding looks unhappy, how come those people are fighting and a host of other questions that I would never think to ask myself.  It also requires you to find creative answers.  That aside she does seem to get engaged in a museum.

Once at the Louvre we headed to the big sights so we would be able to make sure we got them in.  We started with the Mona Lisa, a picture Siena knew before we arrived.  The Feast at Cana sits across the room from the Mona Lisa and is a huge picture offering two sensational works of art with such a contrasting presence in the room.   From there we wandered down into the sculpture area where we found France’s own Porcellino and of course the Venus De Milo.

Surrounded by art our little artist got to work taking pictures once again.  From the art to the architecture (yeah the misplaced glass pyramid is cool too) Siena found everything quite overwhelming to take in.   After the maximum time a 3 year old can spend in a museum was reached,  we headed out into the snow to walk around the area and to search out a special hot chocolate Lisa had been wanting all week long.

As it got a little darker we came to the tearoom Angelina.  Known for its Hot Chocolate L’ Africain, the restaurant was a perfect ending for the day.  We had the dark chocolate L’Africain and some macaroons.  The macaroons were delicious and we ended up with a dozen to go as well.  A great ending to a great day.
