To wrap up our little mini vacation we spent our last day at California Adventure. We had a few fun rides with Siena and a nice day. On a lark we fast-passed the new World of Color show and got tickets for the 11:15 pm show. So, now all we needed was a baby-sitter. We got lucky and Kari Uthus jumped in and suddenly we had date night. Yes, date night.
We headed back to Disney at 9 pm and got to the park in time to catch their latest attempt at capturing a new audience, the Glow Effect. Basically they turn the back lot area into a little outdoor night club with cool lighting, dancers on stages and cocktails flowing from bars in the street. Yes, that's right Cosmos, Mojitos and Martinis in the park. This has the potential to be pretty cool, but the 6 year old next to you grooving to the tunes does bring you quickly back to reality.
From there we headed into a one hour wait for our show. World of Color is Fantasmic meets the Bellagio. Colorful fountains, Disney movie music and some cool effects. A show worth seeing, but maybe not all that the hype would lead you to expect you would see. After the show we headed home, late night for sure, but a great night as well.
There’s nothing like self portraits in the dark and not really carrying how the pictures come out, only adult conversation (without perpetual monitor watching) and an almost carefree feeling for just a moment. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of trying to be a good parent and doing so many things for so many other people, you forget just how nice it is to hang out together. For a few hours we did just that and for me the time with Lisa was the highlight of our mini vacation (please don’t tell Siena).
