I Love a Parade

So this year we went to a town somewhere in Iowa to see their 4th of July parade. The Shriners, lots of military, plenty of old fire engines, McGruff the crime dog and Sparky the Fire Dog. Every politician that holds any office within a 10 mile radius of the town, a few local marching bands and a 1950’s piano player as the Grand Marshall. It all seemed like we were transported away to a small town in Middle America. But no, we were at the 106th Huntington Beach July 4th Parade, right here in Orange County.

We made our traditional visit for breakfast and the parade to Suz and Tom Valker’s home today. We have attended this event every year since we moved to Southern California. The crowd changes and grows every year (must have been 60+ people there today) and the food and company are always wonderful. This was Siena’s first July 4th celebration and her very first parade. She liked both.

Siena watched the parade with some degree of wonderment and curiosity. She was intrigued by the sights, sounds and crowds of people. A couple of hours of parade and then a nap. Yes, our little girl can sleep with marching bands walking by a few feet away. Now there is a talent every parent can appreciate.

Happy 4th of July to all. Oh yeah, and vote for Matthew Harper if you live in Huntington Beach. Thanks for the good seats Matt.
