Maybe it’s just me, but did anyone notice that Christmas cards got more environmentally friendly this year? No, not recycled materials, less materials. The big trend this year in Christmas cards – smaller using less paper was in. This year Christmas cards got down right tiny. Big sentiment, tiny little card.
When I say small, I am talking about cards that were 4 inches or less in height and 4 inches or less in width (a standard card is at least 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide). So when I say trend, I mean trend, 11% of the cards we received fell into the environmentally friendly category. Nothing wrong with these cards by any means, we appreciate being thought of, just an interesting trend. Congratulations to Rick and Shelley on the smallest card of the year (great big Coliseum tiny little card, wish we could have been in Italy with you).
The other growing trend, that grew again this year, was the now very hot picture card. Congratulations to everyone, no one sent a “what were they thinking” picture on their card this year. All your children were adorable and none will want kill you when they get older. This year a full 46% of the cards were photo cards in 2009, they were all truly wonderful.
More folks sent nice family updates; it is great way to keep up with all of you if you don’t have a blog. The Pillsbury Press is the longest running holiday update and Bruce and Cymantha were most poetic (very impressive). We enjoyed reading them all and getting caught up with everyone. Our friends are really busy people!
Finally, the electronic card is catching on. They are not just for business anymore.
So what will the future of the Christmas card be? Who knows, but I am expecting mini videos played on tiny chips, maybe just a flash drive of pictures and good tidings. No matter how they come, Christmas cards continue to be a great way to share good tidings of the season with your friends and family. We appreciate your thoughtfulness.
