Christmas In New York

Yes, Siena there is a Santa Claus.

And everyone knows that Santa Claus is at Macy’s in New York. We see him get off the sleigh and head into Macy’s on Thanksgiving morning every year as the parade ends. While the elves are busting it up in the frigid North Pole, Santa is hanging out in NYC from Thanksgiving to Christmas at Macy’s. So, off to New York we flew as it is only fitting that Siena’s first visit to see Santa should occur in Herald Square.

This year our trip to New York was a very quick turn. It was a weekend trip to NY to introduce Siena to more of the family and to meet some of the cousins who will grow up with Siena. Interestingly, a lot of little girls over past year or so and Siena was delighted to meet Waverly, Brianna and Kira (and of course all the other cousins). The look in her eyes said it all, “hey more people that are my size!” It was so nice for us to see all the girls and Siena seemed as excited as we were.

Our trip included a few lunches with family to give us a chance to see as many people as possible. The Grain House at the Olde Mill, Spain 2 and Tavern on the Green were all great holiday meals. Someday we can tell Siena about Tavern on the Green and tell her she was there, sadly it won’t be next year. No one will miss their food, but the location and beautifully decorated Tavern will be missed. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to see us, we love getting the family together.

For anyone who knows us, Christmas in New York is a tradition. And in keeping with our tradition, we did a tourist’s day in NYC to absorb the holiday spirit. The store Christmas windows, the Tree at Rockefeller Center and the toy stores are a standard for our trip. Throw in a visit with Santa for Siena and our trip was complete. The windows were festive as always. For her very first Christmas windows, we went to Bloomingdales where they had a very neat window this year, one that puts you in it. Someday we can tell Siena how she was in the window at Bloomies! If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Lord & Taylor this year, nothing better than some classic windows. Having Siena there just made me nostalgic.

The lights on the side of Sacks Fifth Avenue and the Christmas Tree captured Siena’s attention. She simply loves to watch the lights. As she continues to grow up it is becoming more fun to watch her than it is to see the sights. I constantly find myself looking into her eyes to see what she is looking at. She smiles and laughs when she sees things she likes and always seems to have a look of amazement on her face. Ah, a daddy’s love.

In all it was a trip that was over too soon but with very special memories for us. There was one more memory that is special to me, but that is blog posting of its own.  Here are some pictures from the visit, hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
