As we drive around, we occasionally hear the word “plane” being yelled from the back seat of the car. If it is in the sky in and she sees it, Siena announces what she sees. Helicopter, plane, etc. She is also very good at letting us know when we go past a park she has been to; “park.” So when the Great Park expansion was announced and it included an air show and fireworks, it was something we had to do.
The park was filled with great planes, old and new and there was a great air show as well. Siena was excited to see all the planes in the sky and the neat maneuvers they were doing. Lisa was pretty excited too, Lisa and Siena both love an air show. We visited the many planes on the ground, explored the Marine and Navy helicopters and got to view some great old planes as well. The highlight of the show was a small plane flown by a daring young woman. Think trick plane made for Red Bull air shows and you will get the idea.

The Purple Foxes transport helicopter was something Siena really enjoyed, she explored the inside of the copter, spent time trying helmets and other Marine paraphernalia and also spent time with some of the Marines. These guys and this copter recently came back from Iraq and they were great hosts and shared some great stories about their deployment and the helicopter.
The day ended with a great fireworks show with the Great Park’s signature Orange Balloon glowing in the background. Since there was an air show, the balloon was not flying. So, we still haven’t gotten to ride in the balloon. One of these days we will get there and so will the park, it is coming along.
