Baby Makes Four

We are all home and we are all doing great. It has been a few weeks since I have written, no good excuses, but simply busy with house guests and our new addition (home and child). So what have the first 19 days held for us? Absolutely tons of amazing things. Here is a quick download....

  • Siena came home on Wednesday, August 5th and there was suddenly a new light in our home (most of our neighbors can see that light on in the middle of the night).

  • Friday, August 7th the remaining members of the Swing family arrived and Grammy and Grandpa met their first grandchild. They stayed for a week and were the perfect extra sets of hands we needed as we got acclimated to a whole new world.

  • Saturday we headed to our first doctors visit because as new parents we were worried about our little girl not pooping. A big warning sign in the "leaving the hospital" paperwork. As it turns out she only likes to do that every few days and it is perfectly normal. Not such a bad thing for the diaper changers.

  • Monday, after three days of waking the baby up every two hours in the middle of the night, we headed to our regular pediatrician. She's great and confirmed what I always thought made sense anyway, don't wake a sleeping baby. As it turns out she is smart enough to wake up and cry on her own when she's hungry. So now she wakes up once a night and we get between between 6 and 8 hours of sleep each night.

  • Bella is adjusting to the new baby in the house. She likes to lick her feet and is always standing right next to the bassinet when she is fidgeting and the changing table when we are doing a new diaper. She is inquisitive and loving. Not sure we could ask for more. Still we are protecting Bella and making sure we keep the right space between them as they learn to love each other.

  • On Saturday the Swing family returned to Virginia and for the first time since she was born we were all alone with our little girl. Very cool and very relaxed. We work really well as family unit.

  • I have been off some of this week to do a little bonding with the new family and getting the final touches done on the house so we can settle in and enjoy our home with Siena.

  • Siena has been here for 19 days now, you may have seen her out and about, she likes to get out. Where has she been in her first two weeks at home? Out to dinner twice and lunch once, she likes restaurants. She made her first visit to South Coast Plaza (the OC shopping mall) yesterday. I may be wrong about this, but she seemed to stare at windows in the Prada and Gucci stores a little too long. I am very afraid. She has also been to a picnic at the beach in Laguna and went shopping to buy her own rocker. She also seemed to like the larger shopping carts at Costco. Siena is a shopper, mommy's little girl.

So many more interesting things going on, but I will try not to bore everyone. One thing I know for sure, Lisa and I have some amazing friends whose generosity and love we have been blown away by. Thank you to everyone who has been so thoughtful the past few weeks.

More to come, about 21 years worth.
