So now we know we have a little girl on the way. With this tidbit of information I can no longer avoid the inevitable … registering for baby needs. So like true parents to be we headed off to Babies R Us. Seemed like a logical place for baby things and better yet they have, what I expected would be, a pretty tight program for registering for all the things you need.
I was right about the baby things. Pretty much all baby, all the time. Tight program, well not so much, what a list. Okay, so we have no idea what we are doing. The list is long and doesn’t really tell you what you need or when we need it. The first big problem with the list, it does not come with a glossary, very bad news for someone with no real experience. Secondly, no pictures or comparison guides to lead you. We were in trouble and we only had an hour on a Sunday night before they closed.
As it would turn out, the closing time was our savior. So we spent about an hour, got through about 4 aisles and probably changed everything on the list at least once. If we really reflect on our efforts, I am reasonably sure the baby would be able to have a bath and something to eat. Unfortunately, it would have nothing to wear and once it was done eating we would have real problems.
So as we stared an empty stare at the limited amount of progress we had made I noticed some books on what to expect during baby’s first year. Hmmm. What an interesting concept planning ahead, so before we have even finished the pregnancy books (yes we remain way behind in the process), we moved on to baby’s first year. And guess what those books start with; a list of what you need, with a somewhat better explanation of why. So with any luck we should be registered somewhere by the end of March.
Never a boring moment in the process for us, living a spontaneous life can bring you excitement. You would think we might have learned from our puppy experience. So we stop by a shelter thinking we might want to get another dog one day. Two hours later we are in a Petsmart with a puppy realizing we don’t have anything a puppy needs. Of course we come across a puppy trainer who asks us our little girl’s name. Had we planned to get a dog maybe we would have picked out some names. Well, since we didn’t have a name we quickly decided to go with the name I think Lisa always wanted to name her child, Isabella. So now we have our little love, Bella (and you can easily see the baby name issue we have in case you missed last week’s entry). We also quickly purchased most of what we needed to welcome a puppy into our home. Clearly the puppy process is easier, leash, tiny collar, baby gate, bed, food, toys.
Okay, so maybe they’re not that different.
The journey toward parenthood continues. It’s a process, and I can’t imagine doing this while actually carrying a baby so Lisa is really a trooper. Stay tuned, this ought to be fun and I hope to report regularly on the craziness.
