When I last left the blogosphere I was developing a little momentum around the Holiday traditions. Lisa and I try to be thoughtful about the things we have shared and some of those special moments we look to relive over and over again. Christmas in New York, real trees, time with family and friends, etc.
When I was writing about these traditions, the real reason for them wasn’t even on my radar screen. Yet a few days before Christmas things became a little clearer. Traditions are things we share with the ones we love and pass along to those who we love. Just before Christmas Lisa and I found out we will have a new reason to cherish and share our holiday traditions, a reason we never expected we would have. Yes, you have guessed it, we are on our way to having someone else to share those holiday traditions with, a little Porcelli is one the way.
Okay, let that settle in a little, let me know when the shock begins to wear off and then we can continue…… Not yet, I am still in shock, and I have known for a while now.
Lisa is now in her 4th month of pregnancy. We were shocked and amazed when we found out. We didn’t plan for this but I guess that would be how it would have to happen for us. It was a decision we were never quite certain was right, but one that we never could quite close the door to either. So, fate took over and 2008 became quite a year. Lisa turned 40 and her body decided it was time to have a baby. So from shocked we have now quickly moved along the continuum to frightened, then on to “oh my god we are unprepared” and now more into that learning mode that really just makes you squirm a bit.
We are both excited. We are both not quite sure what we are in for and we are both beginning to sort out what this means for us today and in the future. If you have children you know exactly what I am saying. If you don’t have children and decide you want to, I highly recommend planning for the event and process. Surely when you are trying and planning for it, it must be easier.
So we are off and running. So far the tests have come back positively, something you are thankful for when you decide to do this a little later in life. A few more hurdles to clear, but we are hopeful that we are going to be bringing a healthy and happy new person into our family. We are entering into the find a pediatrician stage, visit the hospital to check it out, learn more about your health insurance than you ever wanted to know and of course volumes of books on having a baby. It appears this will be quite an adventure.
In answer to some of the more common questions you will likely ask:
• Lisa is due August 4th. A Leo. Let the astrologers go to work on what that means.
• We are going to find out the sex before hand, check back in a week’s time to find out whether blue or pink cards are in order.
• For our family – yes we will register somewhere to make it easier. We weren’t planning for this so we have absolutely nothing we need. Anything baby related is appropriate. If anyone would like to sign up for the room addition to the house please let me know.
• Yes we have seen the baby and it looks like most babies its age.
• We are indeed open to any and all counseling and tips on parenting.
So, now I have an entirely new road to travel in life, and for the enjoyment of our friends and family, a new path in this blog. In the spirit of sharing baby news, we were also thrilled to find out that there are actually 2 baby Porcelli’s on the way. My cousin Frank and his wife Laurel are also expecting their first child and will be delivering Porcelli baby number one a few months before us.
On another note, we were also excited to hear that a good friend just delivered a healthy baby boy a few days ago. You can find her blog listed over on the right side of the page. It is worth a read, she writes wonderfully and you will laugh and cry in the same paragraph. Our congratulations to Geri and Jason on their new BMW.
More news soon.
