One

And just like that our little girl is one. In the blink of an eye she has shared a year with us. Not sure if it is a magic number or if mysterious things happen at this age, but as our little girl has hit one she has accelerated her transformation from baby to little girl.

What has happened over the past few weeks to make me say this? Well, she has:
• Cut her first tooth. It looks lonely, but I am guessing it will have friends soon.
• Started walking, when she wants to. Seems she can get halfway across a room before she decides it might be safer and faster if she crawled. I am starting to think one day she will just get up and start walking, and that will be it.
• Had her seat turned around in the car. Not because she turned one, but because she is too tall to sit facing backwards any longer.

Year one statistics suggest she is getting back more toward the normal range for children of her age, 22 pounds, 30.25 inches. Still a tall girl and already fitting into 24 month clothing, but now more in the 80th percentile versus the high 90’s. On the non-statistical scale, she is still very cute.

For her first birthday party we had a Teddy Bears and Storybooks theme. A house filled with Balloons, Bears and Books, the three B’s of making Siena smile. Her party was fun and as usual our little girl got spoiled by our friends and family. Siena has so many new things to look at and play with that it is unlikely that she will get bored any time soon. We thank you all for treating our daughter so well.

As parents we were thrilled to survive our first year and even more excited that our little got there in one piece as we learned our way through parenthood. 365 days down and only about 6200 more days until she is off to college. I guess we need to save about $50 a day to put her through college. Now there is a scary thought.

Happy Birthday Siena! I am looking forward to year two.
