Friday July 31st. Into the hospital at 6:30 pm. We just walked in, no sense of urgency, no drama, all pretty easy. I thought someone said panic set in. So very serene and surreal tonight. No contractions, not much happening it seems. False alarm or game time?
You've got it, game time. Baby is on the way. Like a good corporate baby she waited until after 5:00 pm on Friday to decide to begin her journey into the world. I can't seem to buy a break here, the baby will be born over the weekend. What's a guy have to do to get a day off here?
Obviously I am just kidding.
So we are in room 284 in Labor and Delivery, momma to be is going to sleep or at least trying in the "highly comfortable" hospital bed (I believe her exact quote was "this bed is terrorizing me"). Grandma Gail has visited via Skype in the middle of the night New Jersey time (next best thing to being there).
Our nursing team, Sheri and Jaime are really good. I believe they are out front noshing on the array of cakes and brownies we brought with us. You can definitely improve your standing in the hospital world with sweets for the staff. Only problem, the next shift will be delivering the baby, I guess I will need to order in some muffins in the morning.
So what finally started the process, shopping of course. If you are needing to get things rolling late in a pregnancy, shop til you drop. This of course brings new meaning to the age old cliche. Newly coined, shop til the baby drops. Nordstroms stimulates so many things it seems.
So with our little girl due to come into the world in a few hours we are trying to rest before the real work begins. Lisa will be working, not me but all the same we will need some rest. The last night of sleep we will see for some time. I guess I should try for a little shut eye as well.
Yet, here I am debating the name still. We have a final list of three, but no definitive choice and the baby is only hours away. I hope we are more organized on other things. I also hope she looks like one of the names we are considering. If she doesn't we may be having Jane Doe Porcelli.
Baby's heart beat is good, mom's blood pressure is yo-yoing. Everything will work out fine.
Our room overlooks the Nordstrom Rack, Macy's and the Mall. Somehow fitting for her and her mom.
Stay tuned, more news to come.
