For My 7th Birthday - Flamenco!

Birthday Girl

Today our little girl turned 7.  While we are left to ponder how that happened so quickly and how we slow the process so we can enjoy her as a sweet little girl forever.  Ah, every parents wish I am sure.  Alas, she has grown up even further and is quickly becoming the type A, high energy, bull in the china shop her parents are.  If you ever want to see your best and worst traits, skip looking in the mirror and look at your young children.  At this age they are simply reflecting you as that is where they have learned most things thus far.

Growing Up Too Fast

For her 7th birthday we started out with cake and balloons.  Like day one, we went for the icing before the cake.  Siena was surprised to see how Mommy was able to whip up a birthday celebration while she slept.   By the time she awoke (somewhere around 11 am) we had found a cake, balloons, a homemade banner and birthday presents.   Having an amazingly creative and talented wife is a huge win at times like these.

With Grandma

Following a breakfast of birthday cake we headed off to the Museu Nacional D’Art De Catalunya (MNAC) for a little art tour for our budding young artist.   We enjoyed the rooftop views and a gourmet lunch.  The we toured the museum which contains various masters, including another visit with our friend Senor Gaudi.  We were sure to visit the El Grecos (Grandma’s favorite artist) and caught great works as well.

Being the Art

We then wandered up the hill for a glimpse of the Olympic Stadium.  With the Olympics just days away, Siena is craving the start of the games.  Her first grade play was Olympic themed and she has been caught up in the Rio fever ever since (No that is not a symptom of the Zika virus).   We couldn’t visit the stadium as Beyonce had it a little tied up getting ready for her show the next night.  None-the-less Siena got a pre-Olympic fix.

Cake and presents, Art, Olympics what a birthday for a 7 year right?  Nope, we weren’t done yet.  After a bus tour of Barcelona that dropped us in Plaza De Catalunya (or pigeon square as it should really be called) we hurried home just in time to go out again.  The birthday party continues!

Special Night with Grandma

Grandma’s birthday surprise for Siena that was Flamenco.  The Palau de la Musica Catalana may be one of the prettiest building in Barcelona.   The outside architecture had caught our eye the night before.  But when we learned there was a Flamenco show in the hall on the night of Siena’s birthday we decided to check the box on this Spain must do list item.   So after some tapas and sangria (if you read my day one post you will see a trend forming here) we went to our first Flamenco show.  4 dancers, 7 musicians a 2 hours of high powered dance.  Certainly worth seeing while in Spain and special birthday treat for our tiny dancer.

Happy birthday to our little angel.
