A Loving Journey

For 6 years now I have been given a very special gift.  I have been allowed to enjoy watching the love and special bond of a mother and her daughter being built.  If you ever wondered if life was truly a journey, watching these two grow in love would tell you it is and what a wonderful one at that.

On journeys you go places together.  Siena and mommy are inseparable and go almost everywhere together.  Every day they wander out into the world together and explore.  A ride to school inevitably reveals something new, even though it is the exact same ride as it was yesterday.  When you travel with Siena you are always treated to a new sight.  When we go on vacations Siena shows us a view we simply could never see on our own.  She learned how to do that from mommy.

On journeys you make plans and enjoy the moments.  For the last five years Siena has added a new level of planning to Lisa's life.  She now plans for two and always puts Siena first.  With calendars chock full events and with almost no time to breathe my girls always find a way to enjoy the special moments.  Enjoying today and making it a great day is something Lisa does so well and she shares that with us all.

On journeys you take long walks and hold hands.  As a family we are always in the go.  Siena now knows when to hold hands (parking lots, busy stores, etc.) but has recently done it more just to be with us.  Siena and mommy walk somewhere and hold hands everyday, so they are clearly on a journey.

On journeys you sometimes get lost, aren't always sure exactly where the road ends and need to stay flexible.  Anyone with a 5 year old knows flexibility is not an option but is rather a survival skill some days.  Lisa finds flexibility and patience with Siena that always amazes me.  On their journey they don't always take the same path and as Siena gets older you are never quite sure where some of the roads she travels will end.  But one thing about their journey is that they go there together in love.

Being a mom is a journey filled with love, worry, hope, courage and just a little bit of craziness to keep it all together.  My girls are on a journey together and I am blessed to get to walk beside them and be part of their trip.  So, on Mothers Day and everyday, I want to say thank to the special woman who leads the way.  We love you mommy!
