First Disney Visit

When Walt Disney built Disneyland he wanted a park where parents could bring their children and where generation after generation could share the special memories from their childhood with their children. Thus, they try to keep the park and characters reasonably similar to what it was like when it first opened. Some things are sacred and some get updated, but the spirit remains. So do you remember the first time you went to Disneyland?

Lisa and I went to Disneyland together in 2002, that was my first visit. Before that all my Disney memories were of Disney World in Florida. I do remember my first visit there as well and even have some pictures from the visit. I remember it being a special experience and one of many happy Disney memories I have had. For Lisa and I Disney has been the happy place, a place to get away from the troubles of our world and just relax. Lisa and I have enjoyed the parks on both the East and West coasts, special events, cooking schools, wine events, and more. So Disney is something we have many fond memories from to share with Siena as she grows up.

So, with all these memories in tow, we set out to Disney with our little girl. Siena’s first visit to Disney, September 6, 2009. We were joined by Grandma Gail, Grandpa Dan and the Pillsbury’s - Don, Jacquie and Ashley. Plenty of great pictures with Siena, many character visits she won’t remember and a fun day with friends and family. Luckily, we have many pictures to share with her when she grows up. Since we have some good video and some nice pictures to share with her, there will be some memories she can enjoy one day.

Her first Disney video was at the entry where we were greeted by the band, Alice and the Mad Hatter. Her first ever picture with a Disney character was with Winnie the Pooh (one of my favorites). She took a special "my first visit to Disney" picture at the entry with Grandma and Grandpa. There were lots of wonderful memories for us to share with her one day.

Of course at 6 weeks old the memories are mostly for me. So here is one little moment I will cherish and hopefully she will find special one day too. While everyone went on the Haunted Mansion ride Siena and I went for a quick diaper change and ran into Eddie. It was one of the few times Siena was awake that day when she and I found ourselves alone with Eddie playing some music. He played just for the two of us and then posed for a quick picture with Siena before he took a break. So who is Eddie? He is the last current Disney employee who was hired by Walt Disney himself. My guess is Eddie will be retired by the time Siena will be old enough to remember her Disney visits. But through the pictures and video she will always have a special memory and a tiny link to Walt Disney, a man I am sure she will learn to appreciate in the years to come.

A little pixie dust and some Disney magic being passed on to another generation.  I think we will enjoy sharing Disney with our little girl.
